FACILITATION
SKILLS
WORKSHOP
On Friday, December, 6 2013 the memebers in SOLC and I organized and executed a facilitation workshop. We invited a diverse group of students to participate in the workshop. During this workshop we went to over five components that are very important when it comes to facilitating. The event ran from 4-6pm.
We started the event with a name game called ' You me, me You'. We showed the participants how this game would be effective when it comes to getting to know people's names. We then went into the five components about facilitatin. Each group had an activity to go along with an explantiaon on the importance of the compnent.
My group and I presented on Building a community and how its crucial to facilitating any group. If you are trying to bring people together in order to work towards a common goal they all need to feel part of a community, the unity and oneness of the group is necessary to accomplish any goal. I felt like my group could have diverged deeper into the activity we facilitated. We facliltated an activity called 'On the Bus, Off the Bus', the idea is for everyone to see how similar they to each other, an important aspect of buliding a community. I felt like we didn't do enough of the activity for people to understand its importance and relevance.
Overall it was an awesome event. I enjoyed the people who came to participate and learn about Facilitating. It healped that they were willing to contribute during the entire workshop.
