HDF 415: FLITE (First-Year Leaders Inspired to Excellence)
Peer Leadership
URI Minor in Leadership Studies, Center for Student Leadership Development
Core Requirement for the Leadership Minor
Spring 2013
Learning Contract
Goal: To identify and utilize my Strengths in an organizational/interpersonal setting related to your role as a HDF 415 Peer Leader.
Activity: I will be leading a workshop with the students where they will get to reflect back on their experience in the current FLITE class. After reflecting they will write letters to next years FLITE class on how to succeed and make it through FLITE
Evidence: I will have copies of the letters and pictures of me facilitating this workshop.
Annotation: I will utilize all of my strengths while doing this workshop. I will be using my context strength by thinking about how the future FLITE students will reflect back on the letters the current students are going to write. When I really think about it, the future FLITE students will be using their context strength by reflecting back on the experience past FLITE students have had through these letters and see if they can learn anything from past FLITE students.
I strongly believe in this minor and the impact it can make on first years studetns. Through my experiences I know how important this minor is to my growth as a student here at URI and as a person. I would like others who share the same passion as I do for leadership to get the best out of it and I strongly believe this letter can accomplish that for FLITE students years from now.
Not only will this letter be written I plan on recording the students when they present thses letter to the class. By doing this I am expanding the channels of communication that these letters can be expereicned through. By seeing the students who had written these letters the future FLITE students will be able to get a better idea of the relevance letter and actually see the students who had put an effort into sharing their experiences in FLITE.
I think these letters will act as a uniting agent with the FLITE students in the past and present. It will show how connected they are due to sharing the same experience as FLITE students. By showing that connection and helping the students feel that a sense of Harmony and understanding is created. These letters will also act as a platform for positivity and encouragement to future FLITE students.
