Luckson Omoaregba

As a peer leader for the FLITE class i got the opportunity to take the Strengths Quest survey again to see if i still had the same strengths in my top five or if gained a new top five, i was excited to find out that only did i have newer strengths, through my role as a peer leader in the FLITE class i was able to gain a deeper meaning and understanding on my new strengths. My top five include, Context, Belief, Communication, Harmony and Positivity. This semester i was actually able to utilize not only my strengths to be a peer leader, but also the leadership models we try to guide the First Year Leaders towards a path of success.
CONTEXT
This semester i really got to embrace Context as my top strength What i didn't realize before was that the way i function as a human being explains why Context is my first strength. On the surface history is one of my favorite subjects but with context I am able rely on the experience of others to better understand my surroundings. In the FLITE class I have had to use context to motivate my students into doing work, I used my experience last year in the FLITE class to help my students better understand the content and theories in the class.
BELIEF
My strength as Belief has been really difficult for me to navigate through. For a long time I was unsure as to how to utilize my strength of belief. Being a peer leader i now understand that my Belief comes from love for education and how important I think it is to the success of any individual. What i have come to understand as a peer leader is that education comes in many different forms. The idea of constructivism often comes to mind when i think about this FLITE class. This class has made me appreciate the many ways of educating that exist. Each student in the class has been able to reaffirm my strong belief in education by the way they learn and grasp information.

COMMUNICATION

As a Communications Studies major gaining Communication as a strength was really important to me. Communication is a strength i know i have possessed ever since i was in high school and in college I got the opportunity to grow as a communicator. This semester i really tried to use communication to make an impact on my students, I spoke to them with positive words, i always made sure to keep them motivated with whatever i said. I knew a lot of what they would get out of the class would come from things i say to them, i made sure I was careful with my words, but i also knew that in order for them to trust me i would have to be as genuine as possible.

Harmony
harmony is a strength I was a bit shocked by, i didn't really think it was strength i had. The way I understood having Harmony as a strength is my lack of ability to deal with conflict. Any where I am Harmony is one thing i cherish. Although this semester there wasn't any big issues with conflict within my group i was still able to use my communication to say kind words and positive words in order to keep the Harmony within the group. Now that i think about it, Communication really helped me utilize my strength of Harmony in the class.

POSITIVITY
Positivity is one strength I needed the most this semester. Personally I had a hard time with my classes and other extra curricular activities i was invovled with. As a peer leader i knew that i walking into that class, i would have to leave all the negativity outside the classroom. Whatever else was going on in my life at the time i know i had to set it aside and come into the class with a positive outlook and make sure each and evryojne of my students was moyivated and inspired in the class.
